The Basics
Name: Alphonse Elric Alias: (Nickname) Al Age: 14 Gender: Male Height: 7ft
Sibling: Edward Elric
Rank: Alchemist
Appearance
Al is essentially a walking talking suit of armour, his soul was attatched to it by his brother Edward to save his life. Whilst it might be somewhat distressing for Al to not be able to feel in his new 'body', it does make him impervious to bullets and most other forms of weaponary, however Al is not immortal, for if his blood seal is in anyway damaged he will essentially die.
Al's armour body is quite heavy and so even when he is sneaking around he makes a rather loud clanking sound. As he has no body within the suit, it sometimes causes others to panic if his head is detached from the body for whatever reason, the fact that he is hollow inside also means that he can either hide a person in his body, or a stray kitten.
Personality
Alphonse is a sweet boy who loves strays, and is kind and gentle to those around him. These traits are considered as childish tendencies- the reason is said to be because he has a stunted emotional maturity (though, still sometimes more mature than his brother) from not growing physically at all. He basically stays the same age in the armor. Edward, feeling a tremendous guilt over affixing Al to something that won't grow or have senses, doesn't care what happens to himself and would without second thought, give his life to give Al his body. Alphonse is completely against Edward dying or being separated from him, so Al usually stops his brother from going too far for him. Al is known to be one of his "tough-as-steel" older brother's few weaknesses; enemies often try to take advantage over it. Alphonse sometimes feels that he is a burden to Edward, but he has saved his brother's life more than once. Alphonse is also seen as the counterpart of Edward. While Edward is demonstrated (in the manga) as violent, impulsive, and loud, Alphonse is the peace-maker of the two, and seeks to help others. Also, because of the armor, most people who meet Alphonse automatically assume him of being the Fullmetal Alchemist-which never fails to annoy Ed.
Because of this, Al is unable to feel, smell, or taste anything anymore, but he can apparently see, hear, and speak. Al, like his brother, is an alchemist. Like Edward, Al is also a very skilled hand-to-hand combatant, perhaps more so than his older brother, having never been beaten by Ed in their spars and scuffles.
History
Taken fom WIKI
Alphonse is born in a small town named Resembool, where he lives with his older brother, Edward, and both of his parents, Trisha Elric and Hohenheim, until Hohenheim embarks on a journey and several years after, Trisha falls ill and dies, leaving the two young boys as orphans. Their neighbor, Pinako Rockbell, then begins looking after them. During that time, the brothers concentrate in studying alchemy in hopes of bringing their mother back to life and are able to train with a skilled alchemist named Izumi Curtis. When they return home from their training, they proceed to try the taboo art of Human transmutation but fail costing Edward his left leg, and costs Alphonse his entire body. Edward then performs a second transmutation, sacrificing his own right arm to bind Alphonse's soul to a nearby suit of armor.
Anime
After Kimblee uses alchemy to transform Al's armor into explosive material, Scar transferred all of his incomplete Philosopher's Stone into Al to save his life. As a result, Al became the Philosopher's Stone. Shortly after, Alphonse learns his body became lighter and his blood seal could endure contact with water. He also gained the ability to perform alchemy without a circle, although this is due to him "remembering" the gate. He only uses alchemy twice after he becomes the stone because any alchemy he or anyone near him uses activates the stone and destroys a part of Al's body. Because he houses the Stone in his body, he becomes the primary target of Dante's attempt to cheat death, but not before he becomes a pawn in Shou Tucker's plot to resurrect Nina. Once captured by the Homunculi for Dante, Al was to be devoured by Gluttony to complete the Stone inside Gluttony's body. But when he saw his brother killed by Envy, Al uses the stone's power to restore Edward's body (including his missing limbs) and re-bind his soul to it. This destroys his own body as he used up the whole of the Philosopher's Stone in the transmutations.
Alphonse becomes the Philosopher's Stone and regains full memory of his visit to the Gate. The concept of this is never fully ventured, due to his fear of the possible outcome effects of using the Stone's power. In the final episode of the series, he clearly uses alchemy without the need of any transmutation circle, in order to resurrect his dying brother.
Manga
In the manga Al eventually develops the ability to perform alchemy without a transmutation circle, the same as Ed. In the manga, when King Bradley impales Martel while she is inside Al's armored body, her blood spills onto his blood seal. This gives him a near-death experience, recalling to his mind his experience at the Doors of Truth. He realizes that he can transmute without a transmutation circle shortly thereafter. Also, in the manga, Alphonse is afraid that his armor will eventually reject his soul, which would mean his death.
A recent chapter proved the theory that Al's body was still in existence, as Ed finds it on a return trip to the Doors, malnourished and unkempt, but very much alive. He shows the true nature of his body, showing that even though his body is almost impossible to recover, he won't give up, and so neither should they. Al is later shown as seeing his body in the midst of snowstorm. This suggests that his body is calling for his soul, showing the first sign of rejection. However, he manages to find the party and warns them, though Scar said that it is rather useless, since they had nowhere else to go. As of recent chapters, Al has been attacked by Pride and Gluttony, and currently appears to be knocked out and possessed by Pride.

The rain was heavier again, lashing down on Al’s body, sending a thunderous rattling sound through his being, it was so dense now that he could barely see what was in front of him, like walking through the mist up on the mountains. Did it never stop raining in the place? It seemed to have been raining like this for hours and it felt as though he had been walking for that long too. He was exhausted, more mentally than physically, the whole evening having been a drain on his senses, what few he had anyway, and he wished he could rest, but that wasn’t an option right now, he had to get his brother somewhere safe, somewhere dry.
Ed had hardly said a word since he had placed him on his back to prevent him from having to walk anymore, he held tightly to his brothers legs, making sure that he wouldn’t fall off. The silence worried him, to the extent that he had sped up his pace a fair amount, though trying his hardest not to jolt Ed around too much. He had made the odd comment, a few light murmurs before he just went silent altogether, and the fact that he could not see him to check if he was alright only made it worse, but he was sure he was breathing at least...even if he didn’t seem to be conscious. “Don’t worry brother...I’ll find somewhere” he said softly scouring each side of the street for somewhere they could stay, there had to be somewhere, somewhere that would let them in without payment? He would beg if necessary.
Stopping under a shop awning Al looked around again, using the few moments of dryness to try and pinpoint somewhere, did this city have nothing but shops? Surely there was a boarding house or something? A hotel? He sighed deeply, becoming more anxious as he felt Ed shift slightly on his back, was he even conscious? d**n it, why could you never find something when it was important?! Moving out from the awning Al sped up his pace again, his armour clanking in the rain, he’d be lucky not to rust at this rate, the sooner he got dry the better too. “Hold on Ed...” he said, his voice breaking somewhat, showing his worry, he would have asked for help, stopped someone in the street, but what would be the point of that? They would just ignore him like they had before, he hated it here, why couldn’t they just go home? At least people would help them there.
Right when he was beginning to think that he would never find somewhere, the bright lights of the Trillian Hotel shone in the darkness, their luminescent glow brightening the dull grey the rain had formed. Al gasped slightly, before running towards the light, still holding his brother tightly, he would be out of the rain soon, and they would have a place to stay. Pushing the hotel doors open with his left arm, he entered the foyer, looking around as water dripped from his armour onto the plush red carpeting. A few of the hotel guests that were sat in the lobby gasped with fright as he entered, some complaining others wondering who he was exactly and why he was carrying someone on his back, but Al didn’t care about their words, he only cared about Ed right now...he was always more important.
“Um...can I help you?” Al turned around to see a young woman with long brown hair standing behind him, a half smile on her lips. She was curious as to why he was wearing armour for a start, but she was also wondering what was wrong with the person he was carrying. Al stared at her for a moment before noting that she was wearing a name tag, was she one of the people that worked here? “Please...we need a room, my brother....” his words were flustered and the young girl frowned slightly before smiling again. “Come on, lets see what we’ve got you can put him down in a chair for the moment if you’d like” the girl smiled in a friendly manner. Al nodded his head to her in thanks and walked over to the side of the foyer stopping in front of a chair, he turned his back to it, releasing his grip on Ed slowly, letting him slide down his back before he eventually landed in the chair.
Al made sure he was alright before he went back to the desk the young girl still smiling as she began to serve him. “Welcome to the Trillian Hotel, I’m Rebecca, how may I help you today?” she said, her voice soft and sweet. Al really wished he could smile now, she was polite, and at least trying to be helpful unlike most of the people they had met tonight. He was about to answer her when a very loud booming voice sounded across the room. “OUT! GET OUT OF MY HOTEL!” a large man approached the desk waving his arms about, obviously annoyed at Al’s presence. “What did I do?” asked Al, wondering why he was being shouted at when he hadn’t done anything. The man glared at him, sticking his nose into the air as he regarded him. “I will not have scruffy people in my hotel, get out and take your friend with you!” his voice was stern, and held very little care to it.
Scruffy? Since when was he scruffy, he was a giant suit of armour, how was that scruffy? He looked across to Ed who was still seemingly passed out in the chair before he looked back at the man, he was definitely the manager, it was the only thing he could be. “My brother needs somewhere to stay!” he said defiantly in response, his eyes moving to Rebecca for a moment before glancing back at the manager. Rebecca sighed and frowned, this was not way to treat a guest, even one that was dressed from head to toe in armour, it was....unusual to say the least, but then unusual could sometimes be a good thing. “Sir, I was going to give them a room...” she spoke up after a few moments, she was normally quite a shy person, but she was willing to speak her mind today. The manager looked to her and slammed his fist down on the desk, obviously angry that she was trying to help them. “Miss Hughes, kindly remember that I am the manager!” he said.
